LVSF Outcomes

Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe is dedicated to providing free, quality tutoring to adults in reading, writing, and speaking English to strengthen our community, families, and workforce. Our student-centered tutoring programs focus on improving basic reading and writing skills, building job skills, empowering parents to help their children succeed in school, and helping immigrants prepare for citizenship.

In more than 30 years of serving the Santa Fe community, LVSF has trained approximately 4,500 tutors who have provided more than 475,000 hours of instruction to more than 13,000 students. The federal government has determined that this represents volunteer contributions equivalent to over $10 million. Volunteer tutors are dedicated to help improve and transform the lives of students. Because of the great demand for literacy services in our area, the program now consists of approximately 225 tutors and other volunteers working with approximately 400 students each year.

Of these students:
64% are female
87% are Hispanic
94% are between the ages of 19 and 59, key wage-earning years
94% fall into the low or very low income categories.
