Help someone learn to read, write or speak English!
Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe conducts free tutoring for adults in basic literacy and English as a Second Language. This service is crucial in the Santa Fe community where, according to the 2010 U.S. Census, 34% of adults are functionally illiterate and 33% do not speak English. You can help by becoming a volunteer tutor. All it takes is your commitment, our training and a desire to help others have a better life.
Tutor Training Sessions
So far this year we have trained 76 volunteers to become Basic Literacy or English-as-a-Second-Language tutors. This is an important step in achieving our goals to meet the huge demands for literacy services in the Santa Fe community.
Training for Basic Literacy will be held on February 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2017 at Santa Fe Community College.
Training for English-as-a-Second Language will be held on February 9th, 10th and 11th also at Santa Fe Community College.

Due to the intense nature of the training, attendance is required at all sessions, including the follow-up session. Tutors are carefully interviewed, trained, and matched with students. They receive ongoing support from LVSF staff and opportunities to improve their tutoring skills through workshops and in-service trainings. Non-tutor volunteers also assist LVSF with public relations, administrative tasks, and fundraising.
