Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe Receives $13,000 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Adult Literacy

Santa Fe, NM – May 26, 2017 – This week, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe a $13,000 grant to support adult literacy.  This local grant award is part of more than $7.5 million in grants awarded to nearly 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 44 states that Dollar General serves.

“Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe is a grateful recipient of funding from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. During these times when many educational programs are facing funding cuts, particularly adult education, we will be able to extend services to include basic literacy tutors going to community worksites to instruct employees in literacy and numeracy.” said Letty Naranjo, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe.

Through our programs, Santa Fe community members are provided the opportunities to be productive and contributing members in our community. When an individual has meaningful work, and can live in a safe and secure environment with the necessary resources that they need, it not only benefits them and their families, but it benefits the prosperity of the entire community. These individuals are then able to contribute to a healthy workforce, and can be informed and engaged members of our communities.

“Dollar General is excited to provide these organizations with funding to support literacy and education throughout the 44 states we serve,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO.  “Providing these grants and supporting the communities we call home reflects our mission of Serving Others and it’s rewarding to see the impact these funds have.”

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $135 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 8.6 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
