Newest Literacy Offerings and News
LVSF and the Santa Fe Detention Facility have created a cooperative tutoring project. Tutors will work with inmates on English literacy skills and English as a Second Language. Tutoring will be done via Zoom or in-person, one-on-one. This project requires the tutor to pass a background check from the facility and to take a group orientation.
Matt will accompany anyone entering the facility for the first time. Anyone is welcome to sign-up and tutor completely online, via Zoom.
The inmates selected for the program are individuals working hard to improve their situation and abilities once they are released. English as a Second language tutoring is the priority currently. Fluency in Spanish is not required at all but welcomed. Anyone who would like to donate books in Spanish is welcome to contact Matt as well.

Book Club Announcement
The launch of the LVSF Book Club is underway. We will hold our first meeting at the end of November. We are currently ascertaining what day would be ideal, but we will likely begin at 4:30 PM and continue for at least an hour. We will read excerpts of the assigned book and then discuss interests, points, ideas. No reading of the book out loud at the meeting or prior is required but encouraged.
This will be an opportunity for the students to explore reading and speaking skills, as well as delving into a relevant book they may have never encountered previously. The intention is not to have students read the full book necessarily, but exposure, exploring ideas and improving literacy skills. We will start by using books from the Illustrated Classics series. Copies will be available for anyone to check-out here at L.V.S.F. All are welcome to attend and take part in any meeting. We will have pizza and drinks ready. Please contact Matt if interested. More details will be sent out in group e-mails and in the next newsletter shortly.
Expanding Social Media Outreach
L.V.S.F. is expanding its social media communication into Tik-Tok. We will be featuring Literacy content, student success stories, student challenges, educator interviews and content intended to recruit students and volunteers. If you don’t have these applications, don’t worry. We will feature many of the videos on our Facebook page and future newsletters. These apps just allow L.V.S.F. to educate in a different medium. You can find the new TikTok Channel at @L.V.S.F. Join our Facebook group and Instagram if you haven’t already, at Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe.
