Virtual Valentine’s Wine Pull Fundraising Event 2021

We want to thank “YOU” our community for supporting our successful Virtual Valentine’s Wine Pull fundraising event, held January 31 – February 13, 2021. The Virtual Wine Pull offered a variety of “lovely” items: wine, chocolates, floral gift certificates and a post pandemic celebration package which included a private wine class for 20 (exp. 2023).

We could not have done this without the support and generosity from our community members, local and corporate business owners: Kokoman Fine Wine & Spirits, Señor Murphy Candymaker; Kakawa Chocolate House, Rodeo Plaza Flowers, Amanda’s Flowers, Total Wine & More, Market Street, Trader Joe’s and Zia Credit Union.

As we all continue to navigate these challenging times so do our fundraising efforts which have been conducted thru online platforms.

If you missed our wonderful Virtual Wine Pull event, stay tuned as we continue to plan and host fundraising and educational events during our 35th Anniversary celebration.

Our Board and Development Committee are committed to keeping our services free throughout the Santa Fe area especially during these COVID pandemic times.

New Opportunity to Serve

Tutors and supporters of the LVSF, are you looking for new ways to become involved in advancing our mission: “To provide free tutoring to adults in reading, writing, and speaking English to strengthen our community, families, and workforce”?

The LVSF Board actively works to create fundraising and community awareness events in Santa Fe so that, during our 35th Anniversary even in the midst of a pandemic, we can continue the mission.

The LVSF Board is seeking new directors to serve; our goal is to have a board of tutors, students, business leaders and other Santa Feans who are excited about engaging in our work. Please contact Co-President Joene Herr for more information or to express your interest.

Upcoming Tutor Trainings:

Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe (LVSF) is offering tutor training sessions for Basic Literacy tutors and English as a second language (ESL) tutors on Friday, March 12th. If you or someone you know is looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity, please consider becoming a literacy tutor. No teaching experience or foreign language knowledge is necessary. Anyone interested in teaching an adult how to read or improve their English language skills may apply to become an LVSF volunteer tutor at www.lvsf.org/tutor-application-form.

Once we receive your application, an LVSF Coordinator will contact you to arrange an online interview and enroll you into the tutor training. Literacy Coordinators Susan Rathjen and Amanda Rivera de Garcia will conduct an online orientation session for all new tutors on Thursday, May 11th from 3:30-5:30pm. The tutor training sessions will be held virtually on March 12th from 8am – 5pm.

Our tutor training workshops provide specific training on how to tutor adult learners. The instruction will involve all language components: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Usually our trainings are offered at the Santa Fe Community College, but because of the current pandemic, we are holding our trainings online via ZOOM.

If you have any questions about tutoring with Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe, please call our office at 505-428-1353, or visit our web site.
