Literacy changes everything—even Easter dinner

Easter is a time of tradition—family meals, shared recipes, and handwritten cards. But for many adults in our community, even something as simple as reading a recipe can feel out of reach.

Imagine standing in your kitchen, ready to prepare a holiday meal, but not being able to:

  • Read the ingredients on the package
  • Follow step-by-step instructions
  • Understand measurements or cooking times

Now imagine that challenge extends beyond the kitchen:

  • A late notice arrives in the mail—but you can’t read it
  • A prescription label feels confusing or risky
  • A job application becomes impossible to complete

This is the daily reality for adults with limited English literacy.

At Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe, we believe literacy opens doors—to confidence, independence, and opportunity. Through one-on-one tutoring, adults gain the skills they need to navigate everyday life with confidence.

Volunteer a few hours a week to help someone change their life.

Donate: Support free literacy programs that empower adults in our community.

Share: Help us spread awareness—because literacy impacts all of us with a review.

This Easter, as you gather around the table, take a moment to appreciate the simple ability to read—and consider helping someone gain that same gift.
